Let's Talk: Nigerian Arts and Fashion Illustrators

Welcome everyone to fashion arts by Elizabeth first let talk edition. Am so glad for you to join me on this journey to discuss what is most ignored in my country, Nigeria.

We can all agree that these time 30years ago, one going into art is seen as an unserious one, even your parents will discourage you saying

"which kind art or drawing do you want to be doing, abeg go and read" (Nigerian readers will relate).

Now we all can say art in Nigeria has gone beyond that to the extent of exploring other areas of it. Before we begin, let know what art is then we can explain art and fashion illustrators.

Art and illustration is not totally the same thing, although both make use of the materials and processes in producing creations that are appealing to the viewers.

So, what the difference, you might ask? Illustration is the drawing or painting that illustrate a text, concept designed for integration in books, magazines, animations or in fashion as communicating an idea of design. While art according to the dictionary is an expression or application of human creative skills in painting, drawing, writing, sculpturing and her appreciated for their beauty and power.

Illustrators ares are those that do illustrations from fashion illustrations, children book illustrations and all.

Nigerians are now getting noticed for the involvement with art, some are even invited to exhibit their work outside the country given them that feel of being recognized for their contribution to society through their work.  We have the likes of Claire Idera who is my number one favorite and a host of others

Art to me isn't just about painting and drawing on paper or canvas, no way. To be i think you can use your dressing, nails, hair style or a simple quote on your shirt to express your art. what am saying is you don't need to know how to carry a pencil and start scribbling something on paper to express your self, you can use your everyday activities or styling to do that.

I know the only thing holding us back in these country on that, is the comments that might be used on you especially by the elderly. Have started having thought and ideas on expressing myself through a lot of Gothic fashion but really don't have that courage here (before people with holy oil will chase me).

Gosh, am already feeling so lazy.

Anyway, let me know below what you think or idea of Nigerian art and illustrators and if you are one, let know how you were able to convince your parents to let u do art (you dont have to be a Nigerian to answer this)

QODT: If you are express your type of art from your dressing, how would you do that and will you be comfortable with it on the road without one commenting negatively about it?

PS: Mine is dark art, hence Gothic fashion.
